The 3.5-inch SAS Hard Drives are also sometimes referred to as Standard or Large-Form Factor (LFF) drives, as compare to the 2.5-inch SFF drives. 6Gb/s SAS 2.0 hard drives are backward compatible with 3Gb/s SAS 1.0 devices.

The 7200RPM SAS drives as also referred to as Nearline SAS or NL-SAS drives. They are are basically enterprise SATA drives with a SAS interface, head, media, and rotational speed of traditional enterprise-class SATA drives with the fully capable SAS interface typical for classic SAS drives. System and storage vendors like Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, and IBM are offering these disks for SAN arrays, NAS solutions, and server systems.

Nearline SAS drives are simply big, cheap, and slow SAS drives targeted toward nearline storage
