The following is the SAS and mini-SAS or iSAS connectors that you will see on your Serial Attached SCSI devices. As you can see in our SAS and iSAS cables directory, there are many combination using the different connectors. For example, our SAS-7084 goes from SFF-8470 to SSF-8484 (host-to-target) or where as the SAS-8470 goes from SSF-8484 to SFF-8470 (host-to-target).

Host ==> Initiator / HBA, RAID Controller Cards

Target ==> Backplanes / Hard Drives/ Tape Drives, etc.

In General:
SAS Controller ==> SAS & SATA drives
SATA Controller ==> SATA drives ONLY.
